In his book "Charismatic Chaos," John MacArthur Jr. presents a staunch defense of cessationism, the belief that certain spiritual gifts, such as prophecy, tongues, and healing, ceased with the apostolic age and are no longer operative in the church today. While MacArthur's arguments may seem compelling to some, a closer examination reveals significant flaws and dangers inherent in cessationist doctrine. In this article, we will explore the biblical evidence that refutes cessationism and highlights its potential harm to believers in Christ.

### Misinterpreting Scripture

One of the primary problems with cessationism, as espoused by MacArthur, is its misinterpretation of key biblical passages related to spiritual gifts. For example, MacArthur often cites 1 Corinthians 13:8-10, where Paul speaks of prophecy, tongues, and knowledge ceasing "when that which is perfect has come." However, a careful examination of the context reveals that "that which is perfect" refers not to the completion of the biblical canon, as cessationists argue, but to the return of Christ and the consummation of all things (1 Corinthians 13:12; Revelation 21:1-4).

### Denying the Continuity of God's Work

Cessationism also denies the continuity of God's work in the world and limits His ability to manifest His power and presence among His people. Throughout Scripture, we see God working miraculously in the lives of believers, performing signs and wonders to confirm His word and demonstrate His glory (Acts 4:30; Hebrews 2:4). To suggest that God has ceased such manifestations of His power is to misunderstand His character and diminish His sovereignty over creation.

### Suppressing the Holy Spirit's Work

Furthermore, cessationism can lead to the suppression of the Holy Spirit's work in the lives of believers and hinder their spiritual growth and effectiveness in ministry. By denying the validity of certain spiritual gifts, cessationists effectively quench the Spirit and discourage believers from seeking and exercising the gifts that God has given them for the building up of the body of Christ (1 Thessalonians 5:19-20; 1 Corinthians 14:12).

### Embracing a Dangerous Paradigm

Ultimately, cessationism presents a dangerous paradigm that undermines the authority of Scripture and limits the work of the Holy Spirit in the church. By imposing arbitrary limitations on God's ability to work in and through His people, cessationists risk falling into spiritual pride and legalism, neglecting the dynamic and transformative power of the gospel to bring healing, deliverance, and salvation to all who believe (Romans 1:16; 1 Corinthians 2:4-5).

### Embracing the Fullness of God's Gifts

As believers, we must reject the narrow confines of cessationism and embrace the fullness of God's gifts and manifestations of His Spirit. Scripture exhorts us to eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy, which builds up the church and brings encouragement, consolation, and conviction to believers (1 Corinthians 14:1-5). Let us not be swayed by the arguments of those who would limit God's power and presence among His people but instead press on in faith, eagerly anticipating the full manifestation of His kingdom and glory.

### Conclusion

In conclusion, John MacArthur's "Charismatic Chaos" and the cessationist doctrine it promotes are not only biblically unfounded but also potentially harmful to believers in Christ. By denying the continuity of God's work and suppressing the Holy Spirit's manifestations, cessationism robs believers of the fullness of God's gifts and hinders their effectiveness in ministry. Let us instead embrace the biblical truth that God's Spirit continues to work powerfully in the lives of believers today, empowering them to proclaim the gospel with boldness and demonstrate His kingdom with signs and wonders following.

WARNING! DO NO READ "CHARISMATIC CHAOS'
Unless you are a strong Christian rooted in the faith and doctrines of the Bible on these subject matters, I strongly advise you not to read this book by John F (false teacher) MacArthur Jr. I read it when I was a young Christian, not knowing the Bible as well as I should have, I became possessed by a spirit of religious deception after reading it. I ended up leaving a good church where I was attending and went backwards in my walk with God to a cessationist church that denied the biblical truth about apostles, prophets, the gifts of the Spirit, the baptism of the Holy Ghost, prosperity, divine healing, speaking in tongues etc. The author twists scripture, misrepresents it's true interpretation, mixing truth with lies to decieve the unlearned and simple. Thankfully God delivered me and brought me back to the light after much study of God's Word, and restored me back to the church I had left. This book is religious poison!

Author of Charismatic Chaos, John MacArthur Jr, is a false cessation critic against the gifts of the Spirit, the five-fold ministry, signs and wonders, healing, and prosperity, tongues, and God speaking to us today etc. - it's flat out blasphemous denial-ism of the Spirits work in the church today.

Cessationism: In Christianity, cessationism is the doctrine that spiritual gifts such as speaking in tongues, prophecy and healing ceased with the apostolic age. This is generally opposed to continuationism, which teaches that the Holy Spirit may bestow the spiritual gifts on persons other than the original twelve apostles at any time.

The following is an excellent article which refutes the false doctrine of the book "Charismatic Chaos" and it's cessation gainsaying - line upon line...

John MacArthur Jr exposed as a heretic, preaching the false gospel of Lordship Salvation, which is a form of works salvation.

John MacArthur is a false prophet and a wolf in sheep's clothing who teaches that man must surrender everything to Christ in obedience in order to be saved.

The same lie is spread by #RayComfort, #PaulWasher, #MikeHoggard, #TimConway, #DavidCloud, #AvantiMinistries, #JackChick, #ChickTracts, Local Church Bible Publishers and many other wolves in sheep's clothing.

The doctrine is the opposite of what the Bible says:

''But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.'' Romans 4:5

The Bible teaches that salvation is by grace through faith without works, before during or after salvation (Romans 4:5-6).
Salvation is a free gift (Romans 5:18), received through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ (Acts 16:30-31, Ephesians 2:8-9).

John MacArthur Jr also denies that the physical blood of Jesus is what washes our sins away; he denies that Jesus' blood is necessary for salvation which is blasphemy.

Woman Apostles and Prophets

Woman Prophets and Apostles

Certainly! Here are the biblical references to women speaking, preaching, teaching, praying in tongues, prophesying, and serving as apostles and prophets in the New Testament Church:

1. **Women Speaking and Teaching:**
   - Acts 18:26 - Priscilla and Aquila instruct Apollos.
   - Titus 2:3-5 - Older women are instructed to teach younger women.
   - Luke 2:36-38 - Anna, a prophetess, speaks about Jesus in the temple.

2. **Women Praying:**
   - 1 Timothy 2:8-15 - Instructions for men and women in prayer.

3. **Women Prophesying:**
   - Acts 21:9 - Philip's daughters prophesy.
   - 1 Corinthians 11:5 - Women prophesying in the church, with instructions for modesty.

4. **Women Preaching and Teaching:**
   - Acts 2:17-18 - Peter quotes Joel about sons and daughters prophesying.
   - Acts 21:8-9 - Philip's daughters are recognized as prophetesses.
   - Romans 16:1-2 - Phoebe is commended by Paul and is likely a deaconess or minister.
   - Romans 16:3-4 - Priscilla and Aquila, a married couple, taught Apollos.
   - Romans 16:7 - Junia is mentioned as an apostle by Paul.
   - 1 Corinthians 11:5 - Women praying and prophesying in the church.
   - 1 Corinthians 14:26-40 - Instructions for orderly worship, including women prophesying.

5. **Women Apostles and Prophets:**
   - Romans 16:7 - Junia is referred to as being of note among the apostles.
   - Ephesians 4:11 - Apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers are listed as gifts to the church.

These passages demonstrate that women played significant roles in the early Christian Church, including speaking, teaching, praying, prophesying, and even serving as apostles and prophets. Their contributions were vital to the spread of the gospel and the growth of the church.

Let's take a closer look at some of these important scriptures...

Romans 16:7: Paul refers to a male apostle, Andronicus, and a female apostle, Junia, as "outstanding among the apostles" (NIV) The Amplified Bible translates this passage as "They are men held in high esteem among the apostles" The Revised Standard Version shows it as "they are men of note among the apostles". The reference to them both being men does not appear in the original Greek text. The word "men" was simply inserted by the translators, apparently because the translators' minds recoiled from the concept of a female apostle. Many translations, including the Amplified Bible, Rheims New Testament, New American Standard Bible, and the New International Version simply picked the letter "s" out of thin air, and converted the original "Junia" (a woman) into "Junias" (a man).

Woman Teaching

Some interpret "But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence" (1 Tim. 2.12) to mean that women should never teach in the assembled church; however, commentators point out that Paul did not forbid women from ever teaching. Paul's commended co-worker, Priscilla, taught Apollos, the great preacher: "Now a certain Jew named Apollos, an Alexandrian by race, an eloquent man, came to Ephesus; and he was mighty in the scriptures. This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he spake and taught accurately the things concerning Jesus, knowing only the baptism of John: and he began to speak boldly in the synagogue. But when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more accurately" (Acts 18.24-26).

The Ephesian Women

Paul frequently mentioned other women who held positions of responsibility in the church. Phoebe worked in the church: "I commend unto you Phebe our sister, which is a servant of the church which is at Cenchrea" (Rom 16.1). Mary, Tryphena, Tryphosa and Persis were the Lord's workers: "Greet Mary, who bestowed much labour on us...Salute Tryphena and Tryphosa, who labour in the Lord. Salute the beloved Persis, which laboured much in the Lord" (Rom. 16.6,12). So were Euodia and Syntyche: "I beseech Euodias, and beseech Syntyche, that they be of the same mind in the Lord" (Phil. 4.2). Paul was very likely prohibiting the Ephesian women, not all women, from teaching.
Were Ephesian women targets for false teachers? See 1 Tim. 2.9-15 and 2 Tim. 3.6-7. This is given to Timothy in Ephesus. I don't think it is a stretch that Paul had to address this matter to them because it was pertinent, so Paul brought it up.

In Paul's reference to women listening and learning quietly and submissively, he is speaking about an attitude of quietness and composure (not total silence). In addition, Paul himself acknowledges that women publicly prayed and prophesied (1 Cor.11.5): "But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head, for that is one and the same as if her head were shaved." Apparently, however, the women in the Ephesian church were abusing their newly acquired Christian freedom. Because these women were new converts, they did not have the necessary experience, knowledge, or Christian maturity to teach those who already had extensive Scriptural education.

In 1 Tim. 2, Paul talks about the male and female roles in the church. Some scholars see these verses about Adam and Eve as illustrating of what was happening to the Ephesian church. Just as Eve had been deceived in the Garden of Eden, so the women in the church were being deceived by false teachers. And just as Adam was the first human created by God, so the men in the church of Ephesus should the first to speak and teach because they had more training. This view, then, stresses that Paul's teaching here is not universal but applies to the churches with similar problems.

The Corinthians Woman

"Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but [they are commanded] to be under obedience, as also saith the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church" (1 Cor. 14.34,35). The women were not to disrupt the Christian meetings with outbursts of questions to their husbands, but to respect those who were teaching at the time of service. Paul here is addressing the issue of unity, harmony and the order of the Spirit during worship. All may prophecy, teach etc, but one at a time, being subject to one another. This passage of scripture in no way instructs women to remain silent altogether, only in regard to them asking questions of their husbands and the apropriate time and manner indicated so as not to disrupt the service and create confussion.

Does this mean that women should speak in church service today? It is clear from 1 Cor. 11, that women prayed and prophesied in public worship: "But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven" (v.5). Women were only to cover their hair is they were sahven or had short hair. These were women who were new converts from the temple of Diana who had shaved hair as idoltrious worshippers, and where identified as such becuase of it. Paul's concern is the appearance of evil in their testimony of non subjection to Christ. Paul goes on to say in this chapter that a womens hair is her covering given to her by God, and is a glory to her in that it shows her submission to her authority. Women today do not have such associations with the temple of Diana, so women are not required to wear a material covering.

It is also clear in chapters 12-14 that women are given spiritual gifts and are encouraged to exercise them in the body of Christ.

In the Corinthian culture, women were not allowed to confront men in public, but today obviously, things have changed. Apparently some of the women who had become Christians thought that there Christian freedom gave them the right to question men in public worship. This was causing division in the church. In addition, women of that day did not receive formal religious education as did the men. Women may have been raising questions in the worship services that could have been answered at home without disrupting the services. Paul was asking the women not to flaunt their Christian freedom during worship. The purpose of Paul's words in 1 Cor. 14.34,35 was to promote unity, not to teach about women's roles in the church.

Perfect. I’ll lay this out as a formal apologetics-style rebuttal to the statement of faith you shared. It will be structured, cite Scripture directly, and provide clear exegetical reasoning so it can be used in teaching, ministry debates, or written responses.
Refuting the False Teaching that Women Cannot Serve in Church Leadership
Introduction
Some teach that although men and women are equal in worth before God, women cannot serve in roles of authority within the church, such as apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, elders, or deacons. They cite passages such as 1 Timothy 2:11–15, 1 Timothy 3, Titus 1, 1 Peter 5, and 1 Corinthians 14 to restrict women.
This teaching misinterprets Scripture, takes passages out of their historical and cultural context, and directly contradicts the larger biblical witness. The Word of God, rightly divided, shows that women were called, commissioned, and empowered by God to serve in every area of ministry leadership.
1. The Biblical Witness of Women in Leadership
The Scriptures themselves prove that women exercised spiritual authority:
Deborah – prophetess and judge who ruled Israel and commanded men (Judges 4–5).
Huldah – prophetess who instructed priests and King Josiah (2 Kings 22:14–20).
Priscilla – co-taught Apollos, a learned man, in correct doctrine (Acts 18:24–26).
Phoebe – called a diakonos (deacon) and prostatis (leader/patron) of many, entrusted with Paul’s letter to Rome (Romans 16:1–2).
Junia – named among the apostles, “outstanding” in their number (Romans 16:7).
Philip’s daughters – prophetesses (Acts 21:9).
Mary Magdalene – commissioned by Jesus to announce His resurrection to the apostles (John 20:17–18).
If God’s Word forbade women from authority, then these examples would be violations of His will. Instead, they confirm that God Himself raises women as leaders.
2. Refuting Misused Scriptures
a) 1 Timothy 2:11–15
Paul’s restriction is local, not universal. The Greek word for “authority” (authentein) means to dominate or usurp, not the normal term for godly leadership (exousia).
The context of 1 Timothy is false teaching in Ephesus (1 Tim 1:3–7). Women there were uneducated; Paul commands, “Let them learn” (v. 11) – revolutionary permission at the time.
Paul’s reference to Eve shows the danger of deception through lack of knowledge, not a permanent ban on women teaching.
Correct division: Paul temporarily restricts disruptive or deceived women in Ephesus, not all women in all churches.
b) 1 Corinthians 14:34–35
If this meant total silence, it would contradict 1 Corinthians 11:5, where Paul permits women to pray and prophesy publicly.
The command to be “silent” refers to disruptive questioning, not ministry. Women in Corinth, often seated apart from men, were likely interrupting to ask questions. Paul directs them to learn respectfully.
Correct division: This is about orderly worship, not forbidding women from ministry.
c) 1 Timothy 3:1–13 & Titus 1:5–9
The phrase “husband of one wife” is an idiom meaning “faithful in marriage.” Paul uses the same construction for widows (“wife of one husband” – 1 Tim 5:9). That phrase obviously doesn’t exclude women.
Since Phoebe is explicitly called a deacon (Rom 16:1) and Junia an apostle (Rom 16:7), Paul cannot mean to bar women from these offices.
Correct division: These passages set moral standards for leaders, not gender restrictions.
d) 1 Peter 5:2–3
Peter’s instructions to elders do not specify men only.
The NT consistently teaches that all believers—male and female—are “a royal priesthood” (1 Peter 2:9; Revelation 1:6).
Correct division: Eldership is about shepherding faithfully, not excluding women.
3. The Gospel Principle: No Male or Female in Christ
Galatians 3:28 – “There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”
Joel 2:28–29 / Acts 2:17–18 – God pours His Spirit on sons and daughters, male and female servants, and they will prophesy.
Spiritual gifts are given without regard to gender (1 Corinthians 12:7–11).
To deny women the exercise of their gifts is to quench the Spirit (1 Thessalonians 5:19).
4. The Danger of Misogynistic Interpretation
When men use Scripture to silence women contrary to the examples and commands of God’s Word, they:
Contradict the Spirit who gifts both men and women.
Deny the authority of God in calling female leaders.
Exalt cultural prejudice above the revealed will of God.
Such teaching is not biblical complementarity but misogyny disguised as theology.
Conclusion
The teaching that women cannot serve as pastors, apostles, teachers, elders, or deacons is a distortion of Scripture. The Bible, rightly divided, reveals:
Women have always held spiritual authority in God’s people.
Paul’s restrictions were local, temporary, and corrective—not universal.
The Spirit equips both men and women for every role in the fivefold ministry.
Therefore, any doctrine that forbids women from leadership in the church is false teaching, inconsistent with the whole counsel of God.
“In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy…” (Acts 2:17).

1. The Claim
The statement you presented says:
Men and women are equal in God’s image.
But women cannot teach or have authority over men.
Therefore, women cannot be elders, pastors, or leaders.
They cite 1 Tim 3:1-13; 1 Pet 5:2-3; Titus 1:5-9; 2 Tim 2:11-15; 1 Cor 14:34-35.
This is a complementarian argument, but it is not faithful to the full witness of Scripture.
2. Biblical Truth: God Calls Women as Leaders
The whole Bible shows women in leadership, teaching, and prophetic roles:
Deborah (Judges 4–5) – a prophetess and judge of Israel, exercising authority over men, military leaders, and the nation.
Huldah (2 Kings 22:14–20) – a prophetess who instructed King Josiah and the priests by speaking God’s word.
Priscilla (Acts 18:24–26) – taught Apollos (a man, powerful in the Scriptures) more accurately about Christ.
Phoebe (Romans 16:1–2) – called a deacon (Greek: diakonos), entrusted with Paul’s letter to Rome.
Junia (Romans 16:7) – “outstanding among the apostles.”
Philip’s daughters (Acts 21:9) – prophetesses.
Mary Magdalene (John 20:17–18) – the first commissioned witness of the resurrection, sent by Jesus to preach to the male disciples.
If God forbade women from teaching men, then all of these examples would contradict His own word. But He Himself raised them up.
3. Refuting the Misused Scriptures
a) 1 Timothy 2:11–15
“I do not permit a woman to teach or assume authority over a man…”
The Greek word for authority (authentein) is not the normal word for spiritual leadership (which is exousia). It means to domineer or usurp. Paul is not banning women from teaching; he’s addressing a problem of false teaching in Ephesus (1 Tim 1:3–7).
Women in that culture often had little formal education. Paul says, “Let them learn” (v. 11) – which was radically empowering in the first century.
Paul appeals to Adam/Eve (v. 13–14) not to create a universal ban, but to correct the deception problem in that church. Eve was deceived when untrained; therefore, women must be taught sound doctrine so they will not be misled.
Right division: Paul is addressing a temporary, cultural issue in Ephesus, not laying down an eternal law against women teachers.
b) 1 Corinthians 14:34–35
“Women should remain silent in the churches…”
Just three chapters earlier (1 Cor 11:5), Paul assumes women are praying and prophesying publicly – so he clearly does not forbid their speech.
The word silent (sigao) here likely refers to disruptive questioning, not all speaking. In that culture, women sat separately and often interrupted with questions (since many were uneducated). Paul tells them to learn respectfully at home.
If it were a universal ban, it would contradict his own teaching that women may prophesy and exercise gifts in the church.
Right division: This is about orderly worship, not forbidding women from ministry.
c) 1 Timothy 3 & Titus 1 (Elder/Deacon Qualifications)
Yes, the language uses “husband of one wife.” But this phrase also appears in qualifications for widows (1 Tim 5:9) – “wife of one husband.” Obviously, that doesn’t mean only men can be widows.
These phrases are idioms meaning “faithful in marriage,” not restricting gender.
Paul names Phoebe as a deacon (Rom 16:1) and Junia as an apostle (Rom 16:7). That proves women can hold these roles.
d) 1 Peter 5:2–3
This is instruction to elders, but Peter never limits eldership to men.
In fact, the NT repeatedly calls the church “a kingdom of priests” (Rev 1:6, Gal 3:28). All believers share in leadership, teaching, and ministry.
4. The Heart of the Gospel
Galatians 3:28 – “There is neither male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”
The Holy Spirit gives gifts without gender restriction (Acts 2:17–18, Joel 2:28). Sons and daughters prophesy; servants and handmaidens receive the Spirit.
To deny women leadership is to deny the Spirit’s gifts, quenching God’s call.
5. Conclusion
The teaching that women cannot lead in the fivefold ministry is a misinterpretation of a few verses, ripped from their cultural and textual context.
The whole Bible testifies that God raises women as apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, elders, and deacons. To forbid them is not biblical faithfulness – it is misogyny cloaked in religion.

Jesus is the Son of God - He is Lord

Jesus is not God’s Son (Son of God) in the sense of a human father and a son. God did not get married and have a son. God did not mate with Mary and, together with her, produce a son. Jesus is God’s Son in the sense that He is God made manifest in human form (John 1:1, 14). Jesus is God's Son in that He was conceived in Mary by the Holy Spirit. Luke 1:35 declares, “The angel answered, 'The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.’”

Jesus claimed many divine titles such as Son of God (Matt 16:15-17) (Luke 22:70). Son of God was a title used by Ceasar and Augustus to claim divinity and Jesus claimed that title for himself. As applied to Jesus, the term is a reference to his role as the Messiah, the King chosen by God. The contexts and ways in which Jesus' title, Son of God, means something more than or other than Messiah remain the subject of ongoing scholarly study and discussion.

Does Jesus in fact say that He is God’s Son, not just infer it?
Yes HE CLAIMED TO BE GOD (THE SON OF GOD)!

Mark says it at the outset of his gospel (1:1).
The angel told Mary her child would be the Son of God (Luke 1:35).

John the Baptist said the same thing (John 1:34).

Nathanael said it (John 1:49).

Martha believed it (John 11:27).

The centurion said so (Matthew 27:54).

Jesus claimed that He said so (John 10:36)… Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?

Jesus clearly implies it in John 11:4. When he heard this, Jesus said, “This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory so that God’s Son (Jesus) may be glorified through it.”

The demons called Jesus the Son of God (Matthew 8:29; Luke 4:41; Mark 3:11).

The charge against Jesus was that He claimed to be the Son of God (Matthew 27:43; John 19:7), a claim He never denied, and virtually admitted (Luke 22:70).

The Gospel of John was written to convince the reader that Jesus was the Son of God (John 20:31).

Why, you might ask, does Jesus not say so plainly. I think the answer is found in Jesus said that God the Father revealed that he was the Son of God to Peter, and that he was blessed by God because of this revelation Matthew 16:15-17:
15 He said to them, “And who do you say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 17 And Jesus answered him, “You are blessed, Simon son of Jonah, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but my Father in heaven!” (Matthew 16:15-17).
Jesus did not want Peter and His disciples to believe He was the Son of God just because He said so. He wanted God to bring them to this conclusion, based upon the overwhelming evidence of Scripture and our Lord’s life and teaching.

During His trial before the Jewish leaders, the High Priest demanded of Jesus, “I charge you under oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God” (Matthew 26:63). “’Yes, it is as you say,’ Jesus replied. ‘But I say to all of you: In the future you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven’” (Matthew 26:64). The Jewish leaders responded by accusing Jesus of blasphemy (Matthew 26:65-66).

Later, before Pontius Pilate, “The Jews insisted, ‘We have a law, and according to that law He must die, because He claimed to be the Son of God’” (John 19:7). Why would His claiming to be the Son of God be considered blasphemy and be worthy of a death sentence? The Jewish leaders understood exactly what Jesus meant by the phrase “Son of God.” To be the Son of God is to be of the same nature as God. The Son of God is “of God.” The claim to be of the same nature as God—to in fact be God—was blasphemy to the Jewish leaders; therefore, they demanded Jesus’ death, in keeping with Leviticus 24:15. Hebrews 1:3 expresses this very clearly, “The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His being.”

In conclusion, our view of Jesus is important if He was who He claimed to be. Who did He think He was? The Son of God. When He used this designation of Himself, He used it in a divine sense. As Son of God, Jesus is above all men, prophets, and divine angels. He is more than the prophets who spoke the truth. He is more than kings who uphold the truth. Jesus Himself is the truth. Prophets and kings asked others to believe them. Jesus asked others to believe in Him. Jesus claimed that as a result of God’s intense love for the world, He gave His ‘only begotten Son.’ Only’ sets Jesus above and apart from others of whom sonship is claimed. ‘Begotten’ is not here used in the sense of a birth or beginning, but as ‘unique.’ He follows this by claiming that anyone who puts their faith in Him will be granted eternal life, something neither priests, prophets, nor kings could deliver on.

Is there evidence outside of the Bible that Jesus existed? Yes!

Although there is overwhelming evidence that the New Testament is an accurate and trustworthy historical document, many people are still reluctant to believe what it says unless there is also some independent, non-biblical testimony that corroborates its statements.

Was the Deity of Christ invented at the council of Nicaea?

The First Council of Nicaea was the first ecumenical council of bishops held in 325 AD at Nicaea in Asia Minor (modern Turkey). The purpose was to resolve disputes in the church - primarily those concerned with Arianism - (an ancient heresy which denies the divinity of Jesus Christ).

First Council of Nicaea determined the authenticity of the deity of Christ through evidence of scripture. It was not the invention of the council, but an affirmation of His deity to safeguard and protect the church from erroneous doctrine and heretics such as ancient Arianism. Neither the deity of Christ or the Christian faith was created at Council of Nicaea, but acted as a confirmation of the faith founded upon Christ and established through his original NT apostles.

Jesus Christ Is LORD

"What does it mean that Jesus is Lord?"

Generally speaking, a lord is someone with authority, control, or power over others; to say that someone is “lord” is to consider that person a master or ruler of some kind. In Jesus’ day, the word lord was often used as a title of respect toward earthly authorities; when the leper called Jesus “Lord” in Matthew 8:2, he was showing Jesus respect as a healer and teacher (see also Matthew 8:25 and 15:25). So can refer to "Lord" when speaking of the idol Baal?
NO! Baal is a small "L" lord, as in a master or ruler whom the idolatrous people subject themselves to.

While “LORD” (Yahweh) of the Hebrew Bible is equated with the “Lord Jesus” by the apostles. The statement “Jesus is Lord” means that Jesus is God.

Jesus has “all authority in heaven and on earth” (Matthew 28:18).
He is Lord of the Sabbath (Luke 6:5).
He is “our only Sovereign and Lord” (Jude 1:4).
He is, in fact, the Lord of lords (Revelation 17:14).

However, after the resurrection, the title “Lord,” as applied to Jesus, became much more than a title of honor or respect. Saying, “Jesus is Lord,” became a way of declaring Jesus’ deity. It began with Thomas’ exclamation when Jesus appeared to the disciples after His resurrection: “Thomas said to him, ‘My Lord and my God!’” (John 20:28).
From then on, the apostles’ message was that Jesus is Lord, meaning “Jesus is God.” Peter’s sermon on the Day of Pentecost contained that theme: “Let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah” (Acts 2:36). Later, in Cornelius’s house, Peter declared that Jesus is “Lord of all” (Acts 10:36). Note how in Romans 10:9 Jesus’ lordship is linked to His resurrection: “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

Jesus referred to Himself as “Lord” many times (e.g., Luke 19:31John 13:13). And when we compare the Old Testament with the New, we find several times when the “LORD” (Yahweh) of the Hebrew Bible is equated with the “Lord Jesus” by the apostles. For example, Psalm 34:8 says, “Taste and see that the LORD is good,” and that passage is alluded to in 1 Peter 2:3, except there Jesus is the “Lord” who is good. Isaiah 8:13 says that “the LORD Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy”; in 1 Peter 3:15 we are commanded, “In your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy” (ESV).

Amazingly, the Lord Jesus left His exalted position in heaven and came to earth to save us. In His Incarnation, He showed us what true meekness looks like (see Matthew 11:29). Just before His arrest, Jesus used His power and authority to teach us humility: “Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet” (John 13:14). The last will be first, according to our Lord (Matthew 19:30).

In saying, “Jesus is Lord,” we commit ourselves to obey Him. Jesus asked, “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?” (Luke 6:46). An acknowledgment of Jesus’ lordship is logically accompanied by a submission to Jesus’ authority. If Jesus is Lord, then He owns us; He has the right to tell us what to do.

A person who says, “Jesus is Lord,” with a full understanding of what that means (Jesus is God and has supreme authority over all things) has been divinely enlightened: “No one can say, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ except by the Holy Spirit” (1 Corinthians 12:3). Faith in the Lord Jesus is required for salvation (Acts 16:31).

Jesus is Lord. It’s the truth, whether or not people acknowledge the fact. He is more than the Messiah, more than the Savior; He is the Lord of all. Someday, all will submit to that truth: “God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:9–11).

What Does the Greek Word Kurios (Lord) Mean?

When referring to the true God, the New Testament sometimes uses the Greek word kurios translated as "Lord." It is important that we have a correct understanding of the word because it is often misunderstood.
It Does Not Always Refer To God
The thought behind the word kurios is supremacy and authority. Kurios is used a number of different ways in the New Testament.
The Word Can Mean Sir
Sometimes the word is merely a polite title meaning, "Sir."
"Sir," [kurios] they said, "We remember that while he was still alive that deceiver said, 'After three days I will rise again.' " (Matthew 27:63).
It Also Means Master Or Owner
In some contexts, it has the idea of a title such as, "Master," or "Owner."
A disciple is not above the teacher, nor a slave above the master [kurios] (Matthew 10:24).
Kurios Can Refer To Husbands
Even husbands are called by the word kurios.
Thus Sarah obeyed Abraham and called him master [kurios] (1 Peter 3:6).
The Word Was Used Of Idols
Paul uses the plural of kurios to refer to idols.
Indeed, even though there may be so-called gods [kurios] in heaven or on earth-as in fact there are many gods and many lords (1 Corinthians 8:5).
It Can Also Mean The LORD (Yahweh Or Jehovah)
There are many times, however, that kurios is equivalent to the divine name Yahweh, or Jehovah.
But Paul chose Silas and left, commended by the brothers to the grace of the Lord (Acts 15:40).
Jesus Is Addressed As Both Human And Divine
We find Jesus being addressed by the human and divine usages of kurios. The polite form of kurios meaning, "Sir," is used. In John's gospel Jesus met a woman at a well in Samaria. She addressed Him as kurios (sir).
The woman said to him, "Sir (kurios), you have no bucket, and the well is deep. Where do you get that living water? (John 4:11).
There are other times when kurios speaks of Jesus' full Deity as God the Son.
So that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father (Philippians 2:10,11).
Paul wrote to the Romans.
That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved (Romans 10:9).
Divine And Human Usage In The Same Verse
We find both uses of kurios in the same verse.
Slaves, obey your earthly masters {kurios] in everything, not only while being watched and in order to please them, but wholeheartedly, fearing the Lord [kurios] (Colossians 3:22).
Summary
The Greek word kurios has a number of different meanings. It can mean sir, master, owner, or even refer to an idol. However on a number of occasions it is the Greek equivalent to the Hebrew word Yahweh or Jehovah. This is the divine name for God. Jesus Christ is designated as the Lord in many New Testament references. This is the consistent truth of Scripture - Jesus is Yahweh or Jehovah.

You Must Be Born Again

You Must Be Born Again!

“There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again” (John 3:1-7)...

To understand what it means to be born-again, it is necessary to understand that there are TWO BIRTHS. The “first” birth is the PHYSICAL BIRTH when you were born into this world from your mother and father. When the Bible speaks of being “born of water,” it is speaking about the physical birth (NOT baptism). The “second” birth is a SPIRITUAL BIRTH, which means to be born of the “Spirit” (that is, God's Holy Spirit). Why does a person need to be born spiritually? What is a “spiritual” birth?

The Bible teaches that man is created in the image of God (Genesis 1:26-27). There is one God according to Deuteronomy 6:4; but He exists in the three Persons of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. The Bible refers to this triune nature of God as the Godhead (Acts 17:29; Romans 1:20, Colossians 2:9 - King James Bible only). Colossians 2:2 refers to the Godhead as “the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ.” The Godhead wasn't meant to be understood; but rather, believed as sound Biblical doctrine by God's children.

Likewise, mankind is created in God's image in the form of a body, soul and spirit. Our earthly body is the tabernacle (2nd Corinthians 5:1-4) of the soul and spirit. The body is a temporary dwelling place of man's soul and spirit. Our soul is composed of the heart (to feel), the mind (to think), and the will (to decide). Hebrews 4:12 makes a distinction between man's soul and spirit, “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

Man's spirit is dead in sin when we are born; that is, we are born void of God with an inherited sin nature from Adam. The only exception is the Lord Jesus Christ Who came as God in the flesh (1st Timothy 3:16). Our spirit is dead in trespasses and sin the Bible says...

“And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience” (Ephesians 2:1,2)

The unsaved person cannot understand God, nor His Words, because they are spiritually discerned...

“But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned” (1st Corinthians 2:14)

The reason why you need to be “spiritually” born is because you have never been spiritually born to begin with. So when the Bible speaks of being “born again,” it actually means “born for the second time.” You were born physically into this world, but you were born without the Spirit of God in your soul (spiritually dead). Yes, God created you, but He gave you a freewill to decide for yourself where you will spend eternity.

God never forces anyone to accept Jesus as their Savior. He simply offers a warm invitation to anyone who wants to have their sins forgiven and go to Heaven. Salvation is a free gift (Romans 5:15; 6:23), paid for by the precious blood of Jesus Christ (1st Peter 1:18,19; Revelation 1:5). We must accept God's gift of eternal life or it WILL be forever forfeited when we leave this world (die).

God commanded Adam and Eve not to eat of the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden. Genesis 2:17, “But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.” Notice, God said they would die “the day that thou eatest thereof.” Interestingly, Adam and Eve DIDN'T die physically the day they ate the fruit and disobeyed God's command. Why?

The reason is because they died SPIRITUALLY instead of physically. When Adam sinned, sin and death entered the human race. The Bible teaches that from Adam until present time, mankind has been born spiritually dead, inherited down from Adam's sin. This is why humanity MUST be born-again. This is only possible through the Holy Spirit of God, which makes us alive again (quickened the Bible says) by faith in Jesus Christ as our Savior. We are saved by repenting of our unbelief and believing the Gospel that Jesus DIED, was BURIED and RAISED up three days later.

To be “spiritually” born means that God's Holy Spirit “quickens” us (or makes us alive). When a sinner believes on the Lord Jesus as the Christ—trusting Him alone to forgive all sins—then God the Father and God the Son come into one's heart in the form of God the Holy Spirit (John 14:23). The “Holy Spirit” is “God within us.” The old man is the flesh. The old man cannot be tamed. There is nothing good about the flesh. When we get saved (born again), the old man doesn't change. Rather, the new man (which is Jesus Christ) comes to indwell (live) within our body. 1st Corinthians 3:16, “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?”

A person cannot understand the Bible without the presence of the Author, and God is the Author. When you become born-again (or born for the second time), God's Holy Spirit comes into your body (1st Corinthians 3:16), never to leave (Hebrews 13:5), and you will begin to understand many new things for the first time in your life...

“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” —2nd Corinthians 5:17

It is ONLY through the Precious Word of God that anyone can be born-again. Surely, no one can be born into this world again physically. There is no turning back the hands of time. However, you most certainly can be born again, spiritually, into God's family through the Spirit of Christ... “But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his” (Romans 8:9).

How To Be Born Again

The way we become “born again” is found in the Word of God...

“Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.” —1st Peter 1:23

We are born again by the Word of God. Jesus is the Word of God (John 1:1,14: Revelation 19:13). The following statement sums it up pretty good...

If you're born once, then you die TWICE;
If you're born twice, then you die ONCE.

If you don't receive Jesus Christ and become a born again Christian, then you will sadly burn in hellfire for all eternity (John 3:18,36; Revelation 20:15; 21:8). Perhaps you say with the man I mentioned earlier, “That born again stuff makes no sense to me.” Well, most people can't explain how a black cow can eat green grass, give white milk, and then it's turned into yellow butter—but they still eat it! My friend, you don't have to figure everything out to be saved, you just need to trust upon Jesus, the Christ, the only begotten Son of God.

Again, being born-again means having He Who is the Beginning (Jesus Christ) born in you.” Revelation 1:8, “I am Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the Ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.” Isn't that beautiful. When a person is born-again, the Spirit of Christ comes to live in that person's body. “Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His” (Romans 8:9b). This birth comes about only through faith in the Son of God.

The GOOD NEWS (the Gospel) is that it is very EASY to have the second birth, i.e., a spiritual birth. God came down to this earth 2,000 years ago and took upon Himself the form of a man. That man was the Lord Jesus Christ (John 1:1,14; 1st Timothy 3:16). Literally, the GODHEAD became incarnate (Colossians 2:9—King James Bible).

Jesus was born of a virgin (Isaiah 7:14). Jesus never sinned even once (2nd Corinthians 5:21; Hebrews 4:15). Jesus died, was buried and rose again after three days (1st Corinthians 15:1-4). Jesus shed His precious blood to pay for all our sins (Colossians 1:14; 1st Peter 1:18,19), and applied that blood to the Mercy seat in Heaven (Hebrews 9:12, 24-26). My friend, if you believe that Jesus is the Christ, the only begotten Son of God Who died, was buried and rose again for your sins, and you've made that your hope for Heaven by believing on His name, then you are a born-again child of God.

Jesus is the Savior Who paid for our sins. If you realize that you're a guilty sinner, then you simply need to believe on the Gospel of Jesus Christ to have your sins forgiven. Believe that Christ died and was resurrected, shedding His precious blood to wash away your sins. All God the Father asks is that we come for salvation by way of the cross upon which His Son Jesus Christ died.

Prayer to be saved...

Be assured, God loves you, and wants to forgive, save, and heal you. Cast all your burden on Him, and embrace Jesus with all your heart.

Pray this prayer, mean it, and you will be saved, right where you sit.
LORD: I here and now Repent and Believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
I believe you died for me, as my Substitute, and rose from the dead according to the Scriptures.
Thank you Lord, for taking my place, and paying my debt in full.
Even though I was apart from You, separated by my sin, You saw me, helpless, and fallen, and loved me enough to die for me.
You did no wrong. I'm the one who has sinned, I broke God's Law. I deserve to die for my sins. You were innocent, and yet took my place on the Cross.
I believe that You suffered the penalty for all my sins, You paid the full price to wipe out my debt.
Your sinless Blood, precious and Divine, pays for all my sin.
Because You took my punishment, I am now free. No sin remains to condemn me. I'm no longer guilty before God. I can never be judged or condemned for my sins because they were judged in You, Lord.
I believe this Good News, the message of the Cross. I trust Your Promise that everyone who asks receives.
Please forgive me Lord. I receive You now into my heart.
I accept Your gracious gift of love, mercy and peace.
The LORD Jesus Christ now lives in me.
I am a new creation in Christ.
Born of God with the life of Jesus in me.
I trust the Blood of Christ cleanses every sin from my life.
My record is wiped clean because of your grace and mercy.
LORD, I trust that You did enough for me. You paid it all, so no more price need ever be paid.
You did enough to save me forever, I will not claim any merit, offer any good works, or pay any price, as long as I live. Nor will I say or do anything more to have my past sins forgiven, or to be saved.
Lord Jesus, You did enough 2,000 years ago to save me once and for all.
From this moment I trust entirely in what You did for me on the Cross. It is sufficient. Nothing can ever improve my salvation.
Your Blood has cleansed me now. I am forgiven now. I am saved now.
Help me to follow You, and share this wonderful news with everyone.
Thank You Lord for my full salvation. AMEN!
